shiny things

we are trying to work out the details to order our new car.

that’s right NEW car. like NEW NEW, not just new to us. this is fancy and something i really didn’t see us doing. but subaru had to go and release a new impreza with great gas mileage. and we had to go an live in the country, on a not well maintained, steepass, gravel road. we went and test drove one when they had them in town for a promotion. i wasn’t totally sold. it is cute and it drove great and i have wanted a subaru for sometime. but i just wasn’t sure. and i am cheap.

this was before i started my job. and before the icy drive in on monday.

besides the icy drive and the fact that our sister-in-law had no problems making the exact same trip in her new outback, i have filled the buick up twice in my not quite two weeks at work. according to the google gods the buick gets 17 MPG in town, 27 on the highway. the impreza gets 27 in town and 36 on the highway. with a pretty significant commute this matters to us. so all wheel drive with good gas mileage sounds pretty good right about now. subarus also hold their value and have a great reputation (right subaru loving friends?).

with bryce out of town, we have been trying to figure this all out over the phone and online. the dealership doesn’t have many in stock, so we will need to order it. i hate making decisions. and besides that fact that my husband has done everything in his power to help me make this decision, including breaking it down into an idiot proof email after several long and mostly unproductive phone calls, i just want him to make it for me.

it is wild to me how little cost there is between the different models. and i find it hard to decide what really matters to me and what doesn’t.

at our wedding, after our friend nick presided over our lovely ceremony, he proceeded to give a hilarious toast. in this toast he called out that bryce likes the shiny things in life. that if one gas station is selling gas at $3.50 a gallon and the one across the street is $3.55, he is going for the $3.55. something like that anyway. nick also said that i had no future before bryce….which i like to think isn’t true, mostly because IT ISN’T. (in nick’s defense i think he is just trying to pay me back for getting the silver metal is wastedness at his wedding. but anyway…)these two statements have become quite the long running joke between us and our friends.

this morning i text bryce saying which model i was leaning towards and he asked why that one.

me:i am not totally sold one way or the other, but i think if i wanted the leather i would go with the sport limited…so i guess i am basing my choice on money, all though overall it doesn’t seem like all that much more just to get it all. i just want you to tell me what to do 🙂

b: Hell, I don’t know. If you go sport premium and want nice seat covers they will cost 400-500. I am tempted to get the best, but you know me, I love shiny things

me: and i love that about you. that and that you gave me a future. a shiny one

so just how shiny will we go? and what color will it be?
