one week from today i will start my new job. it is funny, because i am just a few weeks shy of a year since i had my first day at my last job in kc. and just like then, all i can think about is WHAT THE HELL AM I GOING TO WEAR? well, almost all i can think about. i am also wondering what time their work day starts, so i can figure in my 45 minute commute and start at least entertaining the thought of what time i have to wake up. i am supposed to get a call mid-week this week to let me know first day stuff. i could email and ask, but really there is no point. i would try for the first three days of this week and then take the 4 day weekend off. plus, since my usually bedtime is 10 (after i pass out on the couch around 9:30), i am not super worried about getting up at 6.
it is comforting to be able to look back on my last first day at a new job. good to read the excitement in my voice and remember the thrill of it all. the one thing i am missing are my shopping partners. ladies, this is so much LESS fun without you! the new office has a “dress for your day” dress code, which i totally dig. since the client i will be working with is in town i will need a nice arsenal of business-like-clothing, something i have never really had the need for before. i have a nice start on things with the pencil skirt i bought for the interview. i also recently picked up come calvin klein black boots.
that cuff flips up, for the over the knee look. they are super soft, the heel isn’t too high, and they work great over or under jeans. and are classy enough for office wear. maybe not my first choice, but they will last me a looooong time.
so, what do i need for my first week? besides a personal shopper, outfit planner and unlimited budget? well, i just don’t know.
the real question is at what point will i feel comfortable slipping the jeans back into my wardrobe. i know they are acceptable there, as several people who interviewed me were sporting them, i just don’t know at what point i will feel like i can walk in with them on. i am hoping pretty quick, as i have no dress pants and little desire to own any. le sigh. also, with it being the week before thanksgiving, people are insane with the shopping. i think i will probably smooth work clothes shopping and thanksgiving food shopping all into one trip, so that i can knock them out with the same bottle of wine when i get done.
any work wear favorites i should know about?

I absolutely agree with the denim trousers. I also have a large collection of cardigans and blouses that give me enough interchangeable options to dress me for months. I have a acquired a couple pairs of dressy loafers which are pretty comfortable and make me feel adultish. My black trench coat from Old Navy has been clutch this fall.
you sassy beasts! i have a pair of your old denim trousers, that i fully plan on rocking. i think you ladies bring up a nice point, that they dance the line appropriately in the ever changing definition of business causal. loafers are the new flats, yeah? any brand recommendations? i also need to stock up in the blouse department. they are super versatile and give that nice polished look without having to think too hard. thanks fashion mama. i know i can count on you to keep me classy and sassy. lady tiger love forever!
