things i love about being home

  • watching msnbc and the daily show with my dad
  • cats that beg for treats by sliding their bowls around the kitchen
  • the biggest bed i have ever slept in
  • kisses on the forehead from my mama before bed
  • planting flowers in 100+ degree weather with my mom, cousins and aunt and laughing our asses off the whole time
  • lunch with grandma
  • dinner with my granny
  • fresh tomatoes
  • iced tea everywhere you look
  • finding goodies my mom bought years ago that are new treasures to me
  • having so many people putting so much time and love into my wedding
  • the fact that these same people are doing out of the kindness of their hearts, with no resentment, because this day is almost as important to them as it it to me

i often times go on and on and on about how amazing my friends are (and trust me, they are). but i am also blessed with an amazing family that i don’t think i gush about enough. i have been busting my ass this week and they have been there right along side, busting theirs. and i just want to make sure that i thank them in every way possible. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

so. yesterday i dropped my mom off for  much-needed massage therapy after she worked herself to damnnear death helping with the planting. i ran across the street to the mall to check another item off the list: go to sephora to see about getting my makeup done for the wedding. after surveying the ladies on staff i decided i best go elsewhere. tip: if you work at a makeup store, don’t come to work looking like you went to the club last night, rolled out of bed, and headed into work without washing your face. your mascara looks crunchy and your eyeliner is smeared all over your face. it isn’t a good look. so i walked by bare essentials and stopped in there. they did a trial run for me, and while she did a nice job, i have decided that i am fully capable of doing my own makeup and will instead spend my money on buying new makeup, a gift that keeps on giving. once mom was done we headed over to my grandma’s (READ: dad’s mom=grandma, mom’s mom=granny).

my grandmother is an amazing quilter and if you have ever stayed the night at my house, there is a good chance that you have slept under one of her quilts. there are two quilts that every one of the grandkids get. a sunbonnet sue quilt in your early teens and a wedding ring quilt when you get married. this is a wedding ring quilt for those of you wondering wtf i am talking about.

the quilt that b and i will receive from my grandma will be the backdrop to our ceremony and was the inspiration for the wedding decor. people ask me what my colors are and i say a quilt. i got a look at mine today and it is amazing. i can’t wait to show you all. my grandmother is lending several other things to the decor, but a girl has got to keep a few secrets.

after taking pics of all the goods, we went out for a lovely lunch. from there mom and i dropped grandma off and headed back to the house to go through all the table cloths and again, take pictures. by having photos i don’t have to lug all this stuff to arkansas, only to bring it back.

my mother has been collecting vintage table cloths forever and now all her purchases are justified. here is a little taste…

we also went through table runners, hankies, serving plates and sheets.

look at these sweet scores

after that it was back out to my aunts to finish the planting. by about 6:00 it was only 101 degrees, so we headed out into the yard and finished up getting the flowers into the ground and gave them another big drink of water.

we celebrated with a glass of wine, on a blanket, enjoying the sunless sky.

have i mentioned how much crap we have gotten done this week? A TON!

so what is left for tomorrow? thrift store shopping for sheets. why you ask? i will tell you later!

in the mean time, i hope you have a great weekend and if you have some free time, please do a rain dance!
